YouTube Shorts! How to Create a YouTube Short with Keynote

How to Create YouTube Shorts with Keynote

If you would like to know how to make youtube shorts from your computer, this YouTube Shorts tutorial walks you through step by step how to create YouTube shorts for your YouTube channel. This video shows you how to make YouTube Shorts with Keynote from Apple.

YouTube shorts is one of the hottest trends. YouTube shorts are different, made in vertical format or 1080×1920 resolution. And they can be up to 60 seconds only, not a second more.

Once you have a final video that is vertical and less than 60 seconds, upload it to YouTube from your computer and use the hashtag #short in the description and title.

Face in a Video or No Face?

Let’s be honest here. I don’t feel I need to be in front of the camera. Having myself in the video will cover some of the real estate of the screencast. What?

Picture in picture tutorials is when you have two videos shared simultaneously on the same screen, often used in instructional and tutorial videos. The demonstrator wants to show themselves speaking while also showing what they’re doing.

Would you rather see how the step-by-step is or have sections of the instructor’s face-covering areas up? I wouldn’t like it. So, I create videos without me in them.

Anyone can create YouTube shorts. Grab a mobile device, and you are off to the races: some people film themselves, some film what they are doing and some who knows what. My tutorial videos are on design software. For example, I created a short on the GM logo’s evolution, but there was no way to make this on my phone. In twenty to thirty minutes, I created a YouTube short quickly while on my computer.

YouTube shorts is one of the hottest trends. It’s killing it right now, with some YouTube shorts getting over a million views! YouTube shorts are different, made in vertical format or 1080×1920 resolution. And they can be up to 60 seconds only, not a second more. YouTube shorts can help any channel looking to grow its subscribers count.

Advantages and disadvantages to using or creating YouTube shorts:

  • A YouTube short can be anything between one second to 60 seconds.
  • Video can get many views, and maybe no views too.
  • The views do get counted as a statistic with YouTube analytics.
  • Any subscribers gained from a YouTube short can be kept for life until they unsubscribed
  • View the YouTube short on the YouTube shelf; the watch time is part of the analytics.
  • But, if the YouTube short is viewed on the YouTube shelf, the watch-time doesn’t get counted.

Why is that last point important. For any YouTube channel to get monetized, a channel needs 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of watch-time in a rolling calendar year.

I created this tutorial using the app that was initially installed on my MacBook Pro, called Keynote. Keynote is relatively easy to use, a presentation software application (think Powerpoint!). Once you are done creating the video in Keynote, make sure the video is less than seconds. If your video is 0:00:60:01, the time will round up the footage to 61-seconds, and the video will not be considered a YouTube short. Aim for 59-seconds or less.

Once you have a final video that is vertical and less than 60 seconds, upload it to YouTube from your computer and use the hashtag #short in the description and title.
