Creating a Vanity URL

How to Create a Vanity URL in LinkedIn

When you create a LinkedIn profile, you will get a generic URL address to your profile.

For example, my test account is https://www.linkedin.com/in/ramen-steak-0a19381a8/

Notice the weird characters and numbers after my name, 0a19381a8!

A custom URL will cause your profile to rank higher in Google Search, which will also make you easier to find.

Make sure you create your vanity URL with your name that looks like this: linkedin.com/in/yourname. Sometimes, your name is taken. For example, I wanted to create an Instructor’s LinkedIn profile using my name. In my case, MichaelChow was taken, so I had used my middle name: linkedin.com/in/michaelpaulchow.

You could use your middle initial as well. I did that for my other account as a graphic designer. Be careful though, in some Asian names adding an initial in front of your last name could spell a new name in itself. For example, JosephWong vanity URL is taken. If Joseph decides to use his middle initial, his vanity URL becomes josephkwong. Unfortunately, Kwong is a valid last name.

Therefore, you are using your name or some variant of your name to make a memorable Linkedin Public Profile URL. You can market on your email signature and other places that will be beneficial for you.
